TOpen Hands Community Development Foundation is a non- governmental organization (NGO) that was registered under Section 10 of the Non-Government Organizations Co-Ordination Act. OPHACODEF was initiated due to the need that was felt to address issues affecting the marginalized groups among the communities in Kenya especially in the rural areas and in impoverished settlements. The organization also works to restore the environment. The organization works to promote the following programs in the communities
- Environmental conservation
- Poverty eradication
- Agriculture
- Education
- Water and Sanitation
The management of the organization is led by the board of directors appointed and elected after every 5 years. Appointment and election of such directors is done in a transparent manner and regional based. The board was constituted to keep the organization in check in its activities and implementations of projects. OPHACODEF board of Directors alongside other staff has responsibilities to account for to the beneficiaries and the organization at large. The following are the details of some of the board members
She is the board chairperson She holds bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education and Extension from Egerton University. She holds also a MSC in Agricultural Extension from Egerton University. Being the founder member of the board she brings in a lot experience in Education and Agriculture having worked in the sectors for over 10 years. She also promotes environmental conservation projects being an enthusiast of the environment.
He is the board Secretary and CEO of OPHACODEF Holds a bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness Management from Egerton University and MBA Finance from Kisii University. He has over 10 years in agribusiness and banking industry. He bring a wealth of experience in finance and donor finance management He is the founder member of the organization having worked many community based organization in Kenya. He saw how poverty had ravaged the communities and children could not attend school properly because of lack of basic needs e.g food, clothes and school fees. There was need to raise up and initiate programs which could empower the communities especially the vulnerable women. It was started at the community based level where women and other groups were trained on the utilization of the available natural resourced to earn a living like through growing of indigenous vegetables on market gardens.
She is the treasurer of the organization She holds a bachelor’s degree in Education and project management. She brings in a wealth of experience in project management and very resourceful planning and execution of projects.
